This session will discuss the considerations of designing for host/guest best performance. We will then lead into best practices for configuring your hosts and guests for highest performance. This will lead into a discussion of how the use of shares, and reservations can have an impact on the performance of a guest and on the consolidation ratio for the hosts. We will also discuss the subject of how to segregate your guests so that the virtual infrastructure systems built in algorithm’s will best leverage the common configurations of the guests. The remaining time will be spent discussing and demonstrating some of the freeware scripts/tools to monitor an individual host/guest. We will discuss “how to”, “settings to monitor” to identify un-optimized,under utilized as well as over utilized hosts in the clusters. In addition we will outline several of the metrics that should be monitored, periodically reviewed and what those metrics mean to us.
