Algorithms and Data Structures

Algorithms and Data Structures

Algorithms and Data Structures
Language:English
Publisher: Niklaus Wirth | 2004 | 179 pages | ISBN: 0130220051 | PDF | 1,2 mb

This book starts with a chapter on data structure for two reasons. First, one has an intuitive feeling that data precede algorithms: you must have some objects before you can perform operations on them. Second, and this is the more immediate reason, this book assumes that the reader is familiar with the basic notions of computer programming. Traditionally and sensibly, however, introductory programming courses concentrate on algorithms operating on relatively simple structures of data. Hence, an introductory chapter on data structures seems appropriate.

Martin Charles Golumbic, "Algorithmic Graph Theory and Perfect Graphs"

Martin Charles Golumbic, "Algorithmic Graph Theory and Perfect Graphs"
No-th Ho-and; 2 ed | 2004 | ISBN: 0444515305 | 340 pages | PDF | 7,6 MB

Algorithmic Graph Theory and Perfect Graphs, first published in 1980, has become the classic introduction to the field. This new Annals edition continues to convey the message that intersection graph models are a necessary and important tool for solving real-world problems. It remains a stepping stone from which the reader may embark on one of many fascinating research trails.

The past twenty years have been an amazingly fruitful period of research in algorithmic graph theory and structured families of graphs. Especially important have been the theory and applications of new intersection graph models such as generalizations of permutation graphs and interval graphs. These have lead to new families of perfect graphs and many algorithmic results. These are surveyed in the new Epilogue chapter in this second edition.

· New edition of the "Classic" book on the topic
· Wonderful introduction to a rich research area
· Leading author in the field of algorithmic graph theory
· Beautifully written for the new mathematician or computer scientist

Fast Algorithms for Signal Processing

Fast Algorithms for Signal Processing

Fast Algorithms for Signal Processing by Richard E. Blahut
Cambridge University Press | 2010 | ISBN: 0521190495, 0511776373 | 466 pages | PDF | 14 MB

Efficient signal processing algorithms are important for embedded and power-limited applications since, by reducing the number of computations, power consumption can be reduced significantly. Similarly, efficient algorithms are also critical to very large scale applications such as video processing and four-dimensional medical imaging. This self-contained guide, the only one of its kind, enables engineers to find the optimum fast algorithm for a specific application. It presents a broad range of computationally-efficient algorithms, describes their structure and implementation, and compares their relative strengths for given problems.

All the necessary background mathematics is included and theorems are rigorously proved, so all the information needed to learn and apply the techniques is provided in one convenient guide. With this practical reference, researchers and practitioners in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, and computer science can reduce power dissipation for low-end applications of signal processing, and extend the reach of high-end applications.

Mathematics for the Analysis of Algorithms
    Publisher: Birkhäuser Boston; 3rd edition | 1990 | 132 Pages | ISBN: 0817635157 | PDF | 5.03 MB

A quantitative study of the efficiency of computer methods requires an in-depth understanding of both mathematics and computer science. This monograph, derived from an advanced computer science course at Stanford University, builds on the fundamentals of combinatorial analysis and complex variable theory to present many of the major paradigms used in the precise analysis of algorithms, emphasizing the more difficult notions. The authors cover recurrence relations, operator methods, and asymptotic analysis in a format that is terse enough for easy reference yet detailed enough for those with little background. Approximately half the book is devoted to original problems and solutions from examinations given at Stanford.

Handbook of Bioinspired Algorithms and Applications (Chapman and Hall/CRC Computer and Information Science): Stephan Olariu, Albert Y. Zomaya
Chapman and Hall/CRC | ISBN: 1584884754 | 2005-09-29 | PDF (OCR) | 704 pages | 25.7 Mb

The mystique of biologically inspired (or bioinspired) paradigms is their ability to describe and solve complex relationships from intrinsically very simple initial conditions and with little or no knowledge of the search space. Edited by two prominent, well-respected researchers, the Handbook of Bioinspired Algorithms and Applications reveals the connections between bioinspired techniques and the development of solutions to problems that arise in diverse problem domains. A repository of the theory and fundamentals as well as a manual for practical implementation, this authoritative handbook provides broad coverage in a single source along with numerous references to the available literature for more in-depth information. The book's two sections serve to balance coverage of theory and practical applications. The first section explains the fundamentals of techniques, such as evolutionary algorithms, swarm intelligence, cellular automata, and others. Detailed examples and case studies in the second section illustrate how to apply the theory in actually developing solutions to a particular problem based on a bioinspired technique. Emphasizing the importance of understanding and harnessing the robust capabilities of bioinspired techniques for solving computationally intractable optimizations and decision-making applications, the Handbook of Bioinspired Algorithms and Applications is an absolute must-read for anyone who is serious about advancing the next generation of computing.
Summary: Handbook of Bioinspired Algorithms and Applications
Rating: 5
I am using the book now for class work. I find it easy to read and comprehensible.

Genetic Algorithms - Principles and Perspectives: A Guide to GA Theory

Genetic Algorithms - Principles and Perspectives: A Guide to GA Theory (Operations Research/Computer Science Interfaces Series)

Colin R. Reeves, Jonathan E. Rowe, "Genetic Algorithms - Principles and Perspectives: A Guide to GA Theory (Operations Research/Computer Science Interfaces Series)"
Springer; 1 edition (December 31, 2002) | English | 1402072406 | 344 pages | PDF | 5.40 MB

Genetic Algorithms (GAs) have become a highly effective tool for solving hard optimization problems. As their popularity has increased, the number of GA applications has grown in more than equal measure. Genetic Algorithm theory, however, has not kept pace with the growing use and application of GAs. Most book-length treatments of GAs provide only a cursory discussion of theory and this discussion primarily focuses on the traditional view, which depends heavily on the concept of a "schema".
Genetic Algorithms: Principles and Perspectives: A Guide to GA Theory is a survey of some important theoretical contributions, many of which have been proposed and developed in the Foundations of Genetic Algorithms series of workshops. However, this theoretical work is still rather fragmented, and the authors believe that it is the right time to provide the field with a systematic presentation of the current state of theory in the form of a set of theoretical perspectives. The authors do this in the interest of providing students and researchers with a balanced foundational survey of some recent research on GAs. The scope of the book includes chapter-length discussions of Basic Principles, Schema Theory, "No Free Lunch", GAs and Markov Processes, Dynamical Systems Model, Statistical Mechanics Approximations, Predicting GA Performance, Landscapes and Test Problems.
The authors have worked hard to make the book as accessible as possible for students and researchers. An undergraduate-level mathematical understanding of linear algebra and stochastic processes is assumed. For those readers who have not encountered GAs before, a comprehensive survey of GA concepts is provided and the variety of ways in which GAs can be implemented is outlined. Exercises are provided at the ends of the chapters with the express purpose of aiding understanding of the concepts discussed and to whet the reader's appetite for pursuing theoretical research in GAs.

Algorithms of the Intelligent Web

Algorithms of the Intelligent Web

Product Description

Web 2.0 applications provide a rich user experience, but the parts you can’t see are just as important-and impressive. They use powerful techniques to process information intelligently and offer features based on patterns and relationships in data. Algorithms of the Intelligent Web shows readers how to use the same techniques employed by household names like Google Ad Sense, Netflix, and Amazon to transform raw data into actionable information.

Algorithms of the Intelligent Web is an example-driven blueprint for creating applications that collect, analyze, and act on the massive quantities of data users leave in their wake as they use the web. Readers learn to build Netflix-style recommendation engines, and how to apply the same techniques to social-networking sites. See how click-trace analysis can result in smarter ad rotations. All the examples are designed both to be reused and to illustrate a general technique- an algorithm-that applies to a broad range of scenarios.

As they work through the book’s many examples, readers learn about recommendation systems, search and ranking, automatic grouping of similar objects, classification of objects, forecasting models, and autonomous agents. They also become familiar with a large number of open-source libraries and SDKs, and freely available APIs from the hottest sites on the internet, such as Facebook, Google, eBay, and Yahoo.

Algorithms & Data Structures: The Science Of Computing

Product Description
While many computer science textbooks are confined to teaching programming code and languages, Algorithms and Data Structures: The Science of Computing takes a step back to introduce and explore algorithms — the content of the code. Focusing on three core topics: design (the architecture of algorithms), theory (mathematical modeling and analysis), and the scientific method (experimental confirmation of theoretical results), the book helps students see that computer science is about problem solving, not simply the memorization and recitation of languages. Unlike many other texts, the methods of inquiry are explained in an integrated manner so students can see explicitly how they interact. Recursion and object oriented programming are emphasized as the main control structure and abstraction mechanism, respectively, in algorithm design. Designed for the CS2 course, the book includes text exercises and has laboratory exercises at the supplemental Web site. Features:
* Reflects the principle that computer science is not solely about learning how to speak in a programming languages
* Covers recursion, binary trees, stacks, queues, hash tables, and object-oriented algorithms
* Written especially for CS2 students
* Accompanying Web site includes lab exercises, code, and instructor’s notes,
